Unbeaten in his last five starts, exciting 3YO sprinter Weona Smartone (ShamExpress) demonstrated his undoubted talent again when successful in Brisbane yesterday.

Trained by David Vandyke and ridden by Ryan Maloney, Weona Smartone was brilliantly away in the BRC Spirit Of Boom Handicap and was never headed, sprinting away in the straight to win easing down by 5 lengths in the very smart time of 1.09.31 for the 1200m. Click here to watch the race.

Weona Smartone has won five of his six starts from 1000m to 1200m, with his debut run for fifth the only time he hasn’t finished in first position.

A $160,000 purchase by Vandyke Racing from the 2018 Karaka Yearling Sales Book 1 draft of Windsor Park Stud, Weona Smartone is by Windsor Park’s leading young sire ShamExpress (O’Reilly) from their stakes winning racemare Cora Lynn, a close relative of leading middle-distance galloper Kaapstad Way, second in the Gr.1 Caulfield Cup and a meritorious fourth in the Gr.1 Melbourne Cup.

Weona Smartone is among forty-one individual winners this season for ShamExpress, the sire of highclass racemares Coventina Bay, Embrace Me (recently sold for $700,000 at the Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale) and London Express, this seasons smart 2YO’s Rangi Toa and Shamus, stakes winners Cyber Attack and Qiji Express and recent winners Green Envy (Hong Kong) and Express Princess, Express Fantasy, Murrami Express, Switch Play and Button Express (Australia).
