ShamExpress’ unbeaten star Ka Ying Rising claims Horse of the Year title

The world’s highest rated sprinter KA YING RISING, whose outstanding Hong Kong performances culminated in an unbeaten 2024/25 racing season, won the Horse of the Year title at a special presentation held in Hong Kong at the weekend.
SHAMEXPRESS’ record-breaking son was also named Champion Sprinter and Champion Four-Year-Old at the prestigious ceremony.

Trained by David Hayes, last season’s Champion Griffin scored one of his biggest wins in the HK$26 million Gr.1 Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) and completed a record-equalling season with a commanding victory in the HK$22 million Gr.1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize (1200m) last April to secure this season’s Champion Sprinter mantle.
KA YING RISING’s triumph in the Gr.1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize not only left him unbeaten with eight wins from eight starts during the season but also extended his unbeaten run to twelve consecutive races. As well, the flying four-year-old completed a clean sweep of the Hong Kong Speed Series to secure an additional HK$5 million bonus.
In addition, KA YIN RISING broke Sacred Kingdom’s Sha Tin 1200m record with a gallop of 1m 07.43s in the Gr. 2 Jockey Club Sprint (1200m), lowering a mark which had stood unchallenged for eighteen years, a record he broke again just two months later when running a phenomenal time of 1m 07.2s in the Gr.1 Centenary Sprint Cup (1200m).
SHAMEXPRESS has enjoyed his most successful season to date and currently lies third on the Centaine Award with global earnings exceeding $17.1 million in prizemoney.
He has extended his number of individual stakes winners to 14 (6% SW/Runners) all the while maintaining an impressive overall winners-to-runners ratio of 66% with an average-earnings-per-runner index of $135,000.
