Rip Van Winkle's 3/4 brother sells for 850,000 Guineas

British trainer Roger Varian struck the winning bid of 850,000gns for the three-parts brother to Windsor Park’s Rip Van Winkle (Galileo) during the third session of Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale yesterday.

Catalogued as lot 462 the colt is also a halfbrother to A Star Is Born (Galileo), the dam of Group 1 placegetter Fleet Review (War Front), who is scheduled to make his Australian debut for Aidan O’Brien in tomorrow’s Schillaci Stakes (Gr 2, 1100m) at Caulfield.

The colt was consigned by Barronstown Stud and was bought on behalf of owner Sheikh Mohammed Obaid.
