Clifton Prince the latest 2YO star for Windsor Park

New Zealand’s current two-year-old star Clifton Prince has joined a long list of high-class two-year-olds sold by Windsor Park Stud.
Clifton Prince maintained his unbeaten record with a superb front-running win in the $150,000 Mercedes Super Bonus Colts and Geldings Prelude at Awapuni on Saturday.
Windsor Park Stud’s Mapperley division sold the Volksraad gelding for $27,000 at the Karaka Select Colts Yearling Sale at Karaka this year.
He was bred by the Mapperley Stud Partnership which comprises Windsor Park Stud co-owner Nelson Schick, Windsor Park general manager Steve Till and Mapperley Stud principal Mark Davison.
Second in Saturday’s race was another Windsor Park consigned two-year-old, Sir Slick, who was sold for $48,000 at the Karaka yearling sales this year.
Both horses are now headed for a start in the $500,000 Mercedes Super Bonus Classique (1200m) at Te Rapa on January 31.
Brothers to both Clifton Prince (ex Trickery) and Sir Slick (ex Miss Opera) will be consigned by Mapperley Stud at the 2004 New Zealand National Yearling Sales at Karaka.
Other leading two-year-olds sold by Windsor Park/Mapperley as yearlings include:
Dantelah: Won the AJC Gimcrack Stakes as a 2YO and went on to win the Gr.1 VATC Oakleigh Plate.
Thriller: Winner of the $NZ1 million Magic Millions and top rated 2YO.
One Under: Completed the Gr. 1 double in 1999 in the Ellerslie Sires Produce Stakes and the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes.
Zola: Winner of the Gr. 1 Ellerslie Sires’ Produce Stakes.
Spring Rain: Winner at group level in the Wakefield Challenge Stakes and Gr. 1 placed in the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes. Went on to win the Gr. 2 Wellington Guineas and Gr.3 Highview Stakes as a three-year-old.
Clifton King: Multiple Gr. 1 winner and winner of more than 1 million rand in prize-money in South Africa.
Kaaptive Edition: Winner of the Gr. 1 Ellerslie Sires’ Produce Stakes and went on to win the Gr. 1 BMW Stakes in Sydney in course record time.
Batavian: Group winning juvenile of the Eclipse Stakes and Great Northern Foal Stakes. Went on to win the Gr. 2 Wellington Guineas and Gr. 2 Mudgway Partsworld Stakes.
Tully Thunder: Black-type winner at two years and went on to win the Gr. 1 Australasian Oaks.
Captain’s Command: Stakes winner of the Champagne Stakes.
