Heavenly result for champion sire
24 Jul 2012 |

Great Heavens swept to a three length victory in the Gr.1 Irish Oaks at the Curragh on Sunday to complete an Anglo Irish Oaks double this year for her sire Galileo whose daughter Was won the Gr.1 English Oaks last month.

Galileo has now sired eight Gr.1 winners this year with Great Heavens his 30th individual Gr.1 winner amongst an overall tally of 108 stakes winners.

Included among Galileo’s top level winners are unbeaten champion Frankel, Champion 2YO & 3YO New Approach (a leading first season sire in Great Britain this year) and multiple Gr.1 winner Rip Van Winkle, Galileo’s highest rated son at stud with a Timeform rating of 134, equal to that of Galileo himself.

Galileo has four sons with progeny of racing age - New Approach, Sixties Icon, Teofilo and Heliostatic - and they have all sired Group winners while his oldest daughters are only nine and already he is damsire of 6 stakes winners including Gr.1 winner La Collina.
